Some Stuff

I found this idea on Pinterest....prayer sticks. Each girl in Bible study has a stick. At the end of the night, everyone pulls a prayer stick and prays for that person for the week.

Gavin spent the night with mom last weekend. When I showed up to pick him up, this is how I found him:

This might explain why Gavin didn't want to go to sleep till after 10:00 pm:

Tyger River Fire Dept came out to Lyman CDC for a fire safety lesson. They did such a good job relating to the kids.

Mrs. King let me come to the fire safety thing. Before the firefighters arrived, she did some review questions with the kids. I just couldn't resist taking a picture of Gavin's little hand raised. He waited so patiently to be called on.

A few weeks ago, Jason had to spend the week in Summerville for work. Gavin and I rode down to meet him one day and spent the day at Isle of Palms. The water was chilly, but that didn't stop Gavin.

Speaking of my fabulous husband, this is one of the control panels he designed and built for the company he was working for. I couldn't post the picture of the machine that this panel is actually controlling. It's copyrighted by the Pepsi company.

We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon at the Byrnes Homecoming parade. The kids got super hyped up on candy.

All Grown Up

My buddy started preschool this week at Lyman First Baptist. I really thought there'd be some apprehension and last minute hesitation...none. That child loves school.

Gavin's 4th Birthday Party

Arg, Mateys!

Gavin celebrated his birthday pirate-style. I'm only sharing 3 photos, but we took 200-something. I posted more on Facebook

We did so many fun things, like:
  • walked the plank!
  • dug for buried treasure
  • visited Blackbeard's Tattoo Parlour
  • pinned the eyepatch on the pirate
  • made a hook
  • ate pirate ship hotdogs, sea chips, ocean jello with gummy sea life, and drank shark blood punch
  • went on a treasure hunt to find loot bags

So much fun.
Thanks, friends, for celebrating with us!

I live in a zoo!

I feel like my house is quickly becoming a zoo. I already live with 2 wild monkeys with another one on the way. I have a dog that chews everything in sight and can't resist to jump on me with his muddy paws and stain my clothes. There's a neighborhood cat that feels the need to do its business in my flower beds, and just this weekend chose to climb into the tire well of my car and do its business there. (Gag!) And you saw my previous post with this spider I killed.

After my computer savvy husband finished researching spiders,
we concluded that this is the Australian Redback Spider...
Australia's widow spider.

And if that one wasn't scary looking enough,
Saturday morning another one appeared...
Except this one was the REAL black widow spider.
It had the red spot on it's belly. And it was definitely harder to kill.

And then later Saturday morning, I heard Gus barking like a mad-dog. I went outside in the backyard and found him in the middle of my hydrangea bush pouncing on this...
...a baby oppossum.

No more animals please!
How did Noah do it??!!

The Real One or the Fake one?

I found this guy this morning near the back door.

I know that there's a spider that mimics the real black widow, but I can't tell if this is the real one for the mimicry one. Either way, he's dead. And that's all that really matters.

Gavin's Birthday Party Invitation

Whatcha' think?

Turkey Enchiladas

I know that 'turkey enchiladas' sound a little weird, but it's actually pretty good. Jason found this recipe a couple years ago during Super Bowl season. I think it's by Good Housekeeping. It's really quick and easy.

Ingredients:
  • 12 oz. roasted turkey breast from deli counter, chopped
  • 1 can no-salt-added kernel corn (drained)
  • 8 oz sour cream (reduced fat)
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mexican blend cheese
  • 2 TBSP chopped cilantro
  • 8 flour tortillas (the original recipe calls for 10, but I've never gotten 10 of them to fit into my casserole dish)
  • 1 can red enchilada sauce
  • 1 cup salsa
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Spray a casserole dish with nonstick spray.
2. In a large bowl, combine turkey, corn, sour cream, half of cheese, and half of cilantro.

3. Place about 1/3 cup turkey mixture on each tortilla and roll up tightly. Arrange in prepared casserole dish, seam side down. Repeat with remaining tortillas and filling.

4. In a bowl, stir enchildada sauce with salsa.
5. Pour over tortillas to cover. Top with remaining cheese.
6. Bake 15-20 minutes or until cheese melts and enchiladas are heated through. Sprinkle with remaining cilantro.
